WISD Names Assistant Director for Special Populations

Brittany Griffith has been named Assistant Director for Special Populations for WISD. As Assistant Director of Special Education for Waxahachie ISD, she will work closely with campus administrators, teachers, specialists, and families to ensure that students with disabilities receive high-quality, individualized support. She will also support our special education department by overseeing the referral and evaluation processes and collaborating with campuses to strengthen intervention systems and promote inclusive practices. 

 

Mrs. Griffith has over 15 years of experience in public education, the majority being in Waxahachie ISD. Her experience includes teaching at the junior high level, being an assistant principal at Shackelford Elementary, and, for the past 4 years, she has served as principal at Felty Elementary. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University and later her Masters in Educational Administration from Lamar University. 

 

WISD Director of Special Populations Erin Edmondson said, "We are excited to leverage Brittany’s expertise as a campus instructional leader, with years of experience supporting special education students and services. Her background at both the elementary and junior high levels will be a valuable addition to our department."

Her experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and most recently as the principal of Felty Elementary is a great asset for our SPED department and our district as a whole.” said Dr. David Averett, Acting Superintendent of WISD. 

 

Mrs. Griffith is a graduate of Waxahachie High School. In her years of teaching and leading in WISD, she has built lasting relationships with students. Brittany Griffith has been named Assistant Director for Special Populations. In her new role, she will work closely with campus administrators, teachers, specialists, and families to ensure that students with disabilities receive high-quality, individualized support. She will support our special students, staff, and families. She and her husband, Preston, have two children who attend Felty Elementary.
