Derek Zandt, M.Ed.
Derek Zandt, a 1997 graduate of Waxahachie High School, serves as principal at WGH following years in administration at Finley Junior High. Mr. Zandt has been with Waxahachie ISD for all of his almost two decades as an educator. During his time in the classroom, Mr. Zandt was a social studies and reading teacher at Turner MS, Clift MS, and Finley Junior High. He was also a football, baseball, and basketball coach at WHS for 9 years before moving into administration. In 2015, Mr. Zandt was nominated Finley's teacher of the year for the district. He was also honored in 2017 as one of the Top 40 under 40 Business Leaders in the Ellis County community.
Mr. Zandt lives in Waxahachie and is married to Hillary (WHS Class of 2000), who teaches third grade at Simpson Elementary. They have two children, Hannah (WHS student) and Hayden (Finley student).

Dr. Ryan Cavazos
Dr. Ryan Cavazos has fulfilled his heart for education since 2001. His passion for coaching led him to work as an athletic director and head coach with various districts where he taught Spanish and served as assistant principal and principal.
Dr. Cavazos came to Waxahachie ISD in 2016, where he served as the principal of Challenge Academy and High School of Choice, then transitioned to Howard administration in 2018 before joining the team at Global in 2023.
Dr. Cavazos has excellent leadership skills and fosters a comfortable, collaborative work environment where every member of the Global team works together to help students succeed.
Dr. Cavazos earned his bachelor's and graduate degrees from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. In 2020, he received his doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership from Abilene Christian University. His doctoral dissertation was titled, "The Relationship Between Exclusionary Discipline, Race, Socioeconomic Status, and Graduation Rates at 4A, 5A, and 6A High Schools."
Dr. Cavazos has been married to his wife, Stephanie, since 2001, and they have two daughters. Their oldest, Taylor, is a student at SAGU, and their youngest, Ashlyn, is at WHS. With both daughters competing in volleyball, the Cavazos family has tight-knit relationships with the local athletic community. He enjoys attending Waxahachie High School athletic events and loves to read, play golf, and watch movies.
