Health Services

  • health services logoAll children have the right to learn and reach their maximum potential in an environment that is safe and free from danger. In order to maximize this learning, we believe that students need to be healthy. Good health is more than the absence of illness or disease. It is also the ability to function at an optimum level of physiological, emotional, and psychological well-being.

It is vital that we do everything possible to keep the spread of illness in our schools at a minimum.  The most important step in this process is to keep children at home when unwell.  Please keep children at home if experiencing fever, chills, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, drainage or congestion, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea as these are possible symptoms of the COVID-19 virus, as well as other communicable illnesses.

If you have any questions about your student's health and/or attendance issues pertaining to health, please do not hesitate to contact the campus nurse or the Director of Health and Wellness.  Let's work together to keep our WISD schools as safe and healthy as possible.

Managing Health & Wellness Together

      Fever Policy

      • In our continuing efforts to ensure the health and safety of all WISD students and to be in compliance with the Texas Administrative Code, Waxahachie ISD will adhere to the following policy:

        • A student with a temperature of 100.0° or higher will be excluded from school.
        • The temperature must be below 100.0° for a full 24 hours before returning to school without the use of Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, or other medications designed to reduce fever.

Please know that we want all WISD learners to be in the best possible health at all times.  We take the well-being of our students very seriously and want to provide the optimum atmosphere for education.  Thank you for your adherence to this policy and for helping keep the students of Waxahachie safe and well.

      Flu

      • Flu season in Texas runs from October - March. We at Waxahachie ISD know that preparation is key. By working together as parents, staff, and students, we can help to reduce outbreaks within our school district. Below are some simple steps that each of us can take:

        • Know the symptoms: Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, and nasal congestion.
        • Stay home: Stay home if you experience a fever greater than 100.0 degrees and until you are fever-free without Tylenol or Advil for at least 24 hours. Stay home if you have large amounts of secretions such as coughing and sneezing. Stay home if you experience vomiting and/or diarrhea and until you have been free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for 24 hours.
        • Wash hands: Wash hands with hot water and soap or use hand sanitizers several times throughout the day, especially before eating, after using the restroom, and after playing outside.
        • Cough & sneeze properly: Cough or sneeze into your sleeve or use Kleenex. Never cough or sneeze into your hands.
        • Disinfect: Disinfect frequently touched items daily.
        • Do not share: Never share food or drink and encourage others to do the same.
        • Vaccinate: Get a flu vaccination as they are still available at doctors’ offices, drug stores, and health clinics.
        • Practice the 3 C's
          • Cough into your sleeve,
          • Clean your hands frequently, and
          • Contain the flu by staying home when you are sick.
