Screening
Online screening is one of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether you are experiencing symptoms of a mental health condition. Mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety, are real, common, and treatable. And recovery is possible.

Afterschool Treatment
-
Mind Above Matter
WISD Intensive Afterschool Treatment Program
Helping our students succeed.
The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has partnered with Mind Above Matter to bring iMatter after-school programming to our students in grades 6-12. Mind Above Matter works in multiple school districts across DFW to provide mental health assessments and multiple levels of therapy services during and after school hours. This innovative approach eliminates barriers faced by families seeking treatment and allows students to remain in a familiar environment while receiving care. Participation is initiated by school counselors who refer students to receive care on campus instead of attending class.
Professional Counseling

Next Step
Help for today. Hope for tomorrow.
As many as 20% of students have behavioral, emotional, and mental health issues that require counseling or treatment. Of these young people, more than 80% never receive any mental health care for their issues and 10% go on to drop out of school. The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has partnered with Next Step Community Solutions to provide a Licensed Professional Counselor to be available on campuses to work with our students on an as-needed basis at no cost. Next Steps Community Solutions wants to ensure that teens experiencing mental health issues get the support they need, no matter what.
Experience
Next Step only uses professionally licensed counselors in order to achieve the highest level of service. Next Step has been offering counseling services to East Texas schools for the past five years.
Philosophy
Students are referred by the campus counselor based on their individual needs. Once consent from the student’s parent/guardian is received, the student will begin receiving services by the next Step counselor. The program is administered within the school setting during school hours. Next Step counselors work closely with designated school staff and provide the right amount of counseling hours based on your unique needs.
Multisystemic Therapy
-
N TX Behavioral Health Authority
Multisystemic Therapy (MST®)
The Waxahachie ISD counseling department has partnered with the North Texas Behavioral Health Authority to offer Multisystemic Therapy for our students and families. Therapists work in the home, school, and community, and a team member is on call 24/7 to provide caregivers with the tools they need to transform the lives of troubled young people. Research demonstrates that MST® reduces criminal activity and other undesirable behavior. MST is an evidence-based program that empowers young people (aged 12 – 17) and their families to function responsibly over the long term. MST reduces delinquent and antisocial behavior by addressing the core causes of such conduct – and views the client as a network of systems including family, peers, school, and neighborhood. Therapists have small caseloads and provide services in the home at times convenient to the family. The average length of treatment is between 3 and 5 months, and therapists and provider agencies are held accountable for achieving change and positive outcomes. For more information, please reach out to your campus counselor.
Outreach, Screening, Assessment, and Referral (OSAR)
OSAR removes barriers by providing outreach, screening, assessment, and referral services to individuals with substance use and/or co-existing disorders through brief intervention and linkage to treatment and recovery-oriented services. OSAR is a caring supportive network that proactively empowers youth, adults, and families impacted by alcohol, drugs, and co-existing mental illness to achieve a healthy quality of life and a recovery-informed community.
Suicide Prevention
-
WISD has developed practices and procedures for suicide prevention. This includes providing parents with information on identifying risk factors, accessing resources for treatment or support provided on and off campus, and accessing available student accommodations provided on campus. WISD has a procedure for providing notice to parents/guardians of students who are identified as at risk of attempting suicide. During the notification of parents/guardians of a student who is at risk of attempting suicide, parents are provided with counseling resources and alternatives. Parents are also given procedures and support for the return of a student to school following hospitalization/residential treatment or following suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.
